The Storybook is designed to help children do more than simply watch or read a story.
It allows them to meet new language in context, focus on important words and phrases, and then return to the same material again for review.
In JOYup How-To #2, we show you how the three main Storybook tabs work.
The Story tab is where children experience the language in context.
They can follow the story scene by scene, listen to the characters and connect the meaning of new words and phrases with pictures, actions and events.
This gives children a natural first contact with the language before they move on to more focused practice.
The Explore tab helps children focus on the key language from the story.
Here they can work with flashcards containing important words and phrases.
This is a simple way to slow down, listen again and pay closer attention to the language that appeared in the story.
The Review tab gives children another opportunity to return to language they have already met.
Regular review helps strengthen memory and makes it easier to recognise and use familiar vocabulary and phrases later.
Instead of learning something once and immediately moving on, children can come back to the material whenever they need another repetition.
A useful routine can be:
1. Story – discover the language in context
2. Explore – focus on important words and phrases with flashcards
3. Review – come back and practise them again
The process is simple, but repetition makes a big difference.
We strongly encourage parents to spend some time using JOYup together with their children.
Even 10 minutes a day can be enough to:
The benefits of a short, regular learning routine can go far beyond simply remembering vocabulary.
JOYup combines stories, flashcards, interactive games, listening, reading, writing and speaking practice in one complete English course.
Children meet language in context first and then return to it in different activities, helping them understand, remember and gradually begin using it themselves.
