Who is in Dave’s family? 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

In Family Secret, Ella, Dave, Mia and Tim return to an old classroom and discover photographs, an old map and a story connected to Dave’s family.

This Pre-A0 English story introduces simple family vocabulary, familiar classroom words and useful questions such as “Who’s this?” naturally through pictures, dialogue and context.

What happens in the story?

The children enter an old classroom and look around.

They recognise familiar objects:

  • chair
  • desk
  • board
  • book

Then they discover old photographs.

Dave shows his friends a picture of his family and introduces some of the people in it.

The children practise asking:

“Who’s this?”

and answering with simple phrases such as:

“This is Grandma.”

“This is Dad.”

They also discover an old map and another photograph that may be connected to the mystery they have been following.

Could Dave’s family know something important?

After watching, try answering these questions:

  • Where are the children?
  • What classroom objects can you see?
  • What does Dave show his friends?
  • Who is in Dave’s family?
  • What question do the children use when they want to know who someone is?
  • What old object do they find?
  • What new clue appears at the end of the story?

You can pause the video and repeat the characters’ sentences aloud.

Point to one person and ask:

You can also practise:

This simple activity helps children connect the English they hear in the story with people they already know.

Practise classroom words

Look around a classroom or study space and name the objects you can see:
